Do I need to take down the wall if something goes wrong?

No is the simple answer.  The only part that is built into the wall is the upper sliding track which has no moving parts.  All the moving parts are attached to the door and the door can easily be removed by just quickly removing the jamb kit in the unlikely event of an issue.  This is the most common fear when installing pocket door systems and with our Scrigno, Italian manufactured pocket door kits we have this sorted.

What is a jamb kit?

A jamb kit is a pre-manufactured kit that attaches to the opening once the door is installed.  This closes the gap so that the cavity remains dust and obstruction free and blocks the view down the cavity.  This kit is optional and can be created onsite by the installer.  The kit is supplied in pre primed white timber.

How do I create a double door?

It is very simple really, just buy two kits and two jamb kits if required.

Are pocket doors good for bedrooms?

Pocket doors are a good option for any room that may not have space for a full-swing door. They’re perfect for closets, connecting two spaces (for example between an en suite and a walk-in closet, and small bedrooms where floor space counts.  A double set of pocket doors can even be used to open up a space such as a kitchen and living space without losing any wall space for furniture or hanging material.

Why are pocket doors used instead of swing doors?

Pocket doors save valuable floor space by eliminating the room you need for traditional doors to swing open. Because a pocket door slides into the wall, you need to have enough clearance in the wall framing for the door(s) to accommodate the door when it’s pushed into the wall pocket.  This is achieved by using the kits that create this pocket without increasing the thickness of the wall.

Why would you use a pocket door?

Pocket doors are a great solution for smaller spaces that lack the wall space for a full swing door or traditional sliding door. This makes them perfect for small bathrooms, closets and connecting those two areas, for example between a master bedroom and the walk-in wardrobe or ensuite.

Do pocket doors require thicker walls?

Our pocket door systems don’t require anything above what is standard in Ireland which is a 100mm stud with the standard 12.5mm plasterboard slab on either side making it a 125mm thick wall.

Can you put a pocket door anywhere?

You can really have a pocket door installed anywhere you like but normally, such doors are placed in areas where they will be of benefit. If the space provided for a door swing is not optimal, a pocket door will free up space in the home.

Do Pocket Doors Block Sound?

The short answer is no – pocket doors as with nearly all sliding door systems do not block very much sound due to the tolerances/gaps needed for the sliding motion.

Do pocket doors lock?

Yes, you can lock pocket doors to secure specific places in your house. Pocket doors can have a lock on one or both sides. If you want to secure your property, you can choose a pocket door lock with a key.

Do pocket doors have a bottom track?

Our pocket door systems only have an upper track so there are no trip hazards and this allows for flooring to easily flow from one room to another.

Can pocket doors work in a kitchen?

In a kitchen, pocket doors often link the main space with a utility or boot room, where it can be incorporated into a wall or within tall units to disguise a secondary room behind.

How do you keep a pocket door from slamming?

Our pocket door systems for both timber and glass doors can be supplied with an optional soft close.  This means that the door cannot slam closed and so is safer and smoother.

What is the difference between pocket door and sliding door?

While a pocket door slides into a hidden compartment or recess within the adjacent wall, a sliding door, although similar in its mechanism, doesn’t. A sliding door glides parallel to the interior wall which means that the space behind the moving door must remain clear at all times unlike the pocket door solution.

What guarantee have I got?

If the pocket door system is installed correctly and within the manufacturers guidelines then the manufacturer will offer you a 20 year guarantee which is far more that you would be offered by a traditional hinge manufacturer.

What is the difference between the timber and glass door kits?

All kits are designed as standard for timber doors 35 – 40mm thick.  The only difference for a glass door is that there is an extra set of hangers to suit the glass door 8 – 10mm thick.

For a glass pocket door does the glass need any drilling or notching for the hangers?

No, the glass is simply clamped and there is no extra expense needed for processing the glass with drilling or notching.  Door weights must not exceed 120kg.

What type of glass do I need to use?

We always recommend that your glass is 8 – 10mm thick and is toughened safety glass.  The glass can be clear, tinted, frosted, sandblasted, really anything as long as it is smooth for the clamps to work correctly.
